CMCi News:
August 20, 2025: CMCi supports machinist graduates at Mira Costa College. All graduates received new calipers as a gift from CMCi. August 20th was graduation for Mira Costa TCI’s (Technology Career Institute) 4th Cohort of their UA (Uniquely Abled) program. Instructors Carisa Chavez and Rob Pettit did a great job of highlighting the amazing work they do in strategic and practical education for manufacturing, as well as for other industry-specific skills. At the event, Carisa Chavez introduced attendees to some of the representatives of San Diego Workforce Partnership (SDWP), “workforce.org”. SDWP has programs that help fund training employees. This can greatly defray the initial cost of hiring new employees—such as the Mira Costa students—and bringing them up to productive speed. One SDWP contact is Beatrice Edjah, Program Specialist, [email protected], (619) 724-0424. CMCi thanks Glenn Van Noy (Champion Risk), Noel Trias (Pensionmark), Lyle Anderson (C&H Machine) and Heather Russell (K-Tech).

In January 2022, the Kearny High School of Engineering, Innovation and Design (EID) held their Senior Gala. During the event, 50 graduating seniors showcased projects in engineering, architecture, product design and manufacturing. Approximately 40 industry professionals judged the projects and provided feedback. The event was a huge success - most of the senior projects were evaluated as “expert.” Kearny EID is especially proud of this group of students who overcame the challenges created by COVID-19 and distance learning. Peter Neville, president of B&H Tool, and Jack Abram, Machining Programs instructor at Mira Costa College were two of the Gala judges. They praised the students for the high-quality of their presentations and felt it was time well-spent. Industry engagement with Kearny EID is essential. It enhances the quality of education and connects it with industry needs. The staff recognizes that engineering and manufacturing are among the fastest growing sectors in the U.S. and provides an instructional pathway that leads to rewarding careers for students. CMCi is proud to be a dinner sponsor at this event!
